Bomber cookies

July 26, 2008
I promised the boys we’d make airplane cookies this year to go along with our aviation unit study and I was determined to follow through because I promised train cookies last summer and then never actually made them.  Whoops!  But turning on the oven in July is one of my least favorite activities.  Of course since then, we’ve been through a cool fall and a very cold winter where baking is enjoyable and we still haven’t made train cookies.

So this week we went to our favorite kitchen store, the one that has an entire wall full of cookie cutters in about every shape imaginable.  A picked out a space shuttle, C picked a bomber, and D got a mini airplane cutter.  They were briefly distracted by the locomotives, but I had to remind them that we already have at least six train cookie cutters at home.

I told DH we went to the kitchen store and got a B-17 cookie cutter.  C immediately piped up and said, “It’s not a B-17, Mom.  B-17s have four propellers.”
I stand corrected.
DH said, “Oh, you’re being the fun mom today.”  I’m not sure what that was a commentary on.
So we made unidentified bomber cookies, and I let them make some train ones too.  Aren’t I the fun mom?

Generally making cutout cookies with three kids is not my idea of fun, but it wasn’t too bad this time around.  Maybe we’ll have to do this more than once a year.  And they had just as much fun playing with their cookies as with their toy airplanes.

It looks like you all had a lot of fun. Your cookies look nice and thick like I like them. Did you use a recipe or mix?

I love the picture of D flying his cookies!

OT: Your blog on my computer is a little weird. The words in your post slightly run into your sidebar where I cannot see them.

I use the Betty Crocker sour cream cookie recipe.

I think something’s up with WordPress because it was doing weird things while I was typing. It wouldn’t let me do paragraphs like I wanted. Sorry!

how fun for your boys!! i know that those are the experiences that they always cherish & remember the most. too bad it just happens to be the ones that seem to be the hardest, for us as parents, to want to do in the first place.

Making cut out cookies isn’t always fun with little guys so I know this was a lot of work and took a lot of patience on your part. They sure look like they had a great time.

    You were the fun mom.

neat cookie cutters. that does look fun. Although I agree that making cookies with three helpers is not always as fun as it sounds. Glad it turned out well for you this time!

This is such a cute idea! I love the cookie cutters- I love to make sugar cookies but have to limit myself since I eat so much dough! I love the idea of cooking up the theme!
