A Slice of Real Life

November 17, 2008

All that talk last week about the next concert and some great new music, and I didn’t practice a note until today.  At 9 p.m.  That was the first time I had a chance.  We’ve been going all day long.  That was my goal for today only because I know I won’t have a spare minute tomorrow to practice before rehearsal between homeschool, two cello students, Kindermusik, and dinner.

Other details of my real life:

I felt like I’d been run over by a truck when I woke up this morning.  I’m not sure why, I just hope it doesn’t mean I’m getting sick.

We had a slow start.  We ate breakfast at 10.  But we did get some good scripture study and discussion in while they ate.

School didn’t really start until 11.  So much for my goal to get going earlier in the morning.

But we did get a lot done, even while D had a fit because I wouldn’t bring his transporter truck up from the basement in the middle of history reading.

After doing a great job staying caught up with laundry last week, I currently have 2 1/2 loads waiting to be folded, and one more in the dryer calling my name.

I dropped my cell phone in the sink while I was brushing my teeth last night.  I’m not sure why I was holding it while brushing my teeth.  (And I can’t type cell, it comes out cello.  That’s funny.)

It appeared to be ok but started vibrating nonstop later on when I was trying to go to sleep with it next to my pillow (It’s my alarm clock) causing me to giggle uncontrollably even while contemplating the cost of a new one.

It dried out and appears to be working fine today.  Knock on wood.

My desk is back to being a horrendous pile of schoolwork needed to be filed and half completed to-do lists.  And let’s not even talk about the baker’s rack in the living room.

I located the source of the elusive smell I’ve noticed in the kitchen for a long time.  I had a bag of hot dog buns (judging by the label) that were completely dark green, liquid, and just disgusting on top of the pantry.  My guess is they’re at least 4 months old.  Time to clean off the pantry and the fridge?  Oh yeah.  I can’t even see up there.

My entire kitchen needs to be scrubbed for that matter.

Anybody up for massive cleaning over Thanksgiving break??

I don’t think I’ve ever washed the living room curtains.  They’ve been hanging there for over 5 years.  They’re on my list too.

But on the bright side I remembered to put dinner in the crockpot at lunch so we had time to go to the library and the park to enjoy some fairly nice weather.  Now I’m ready for bed!

Between you and I we had the identical day yesterday, except for the cell phone part- and we had cereal for dinner not a yummy crock pot meal. Have a good one today!

Sounds like it’s always non-stop at your house! Same here.

As for the cell phone, my hubby used to give his to the little ones to play with. They drooled on that thing non-stop! After a while it stopped working, but it really kept going for quite a while!

I laughed about spelling cell. Sounds like a nice full day. Love those keeping it real posts!

Every once in a while we also play the game: “Where is that smell coming from?!”
When we find the disgustingly moldy item I hold it up in triumph and yell, “SCIENCE EXPERIEMENT!!!” and we all look at it closely noting the color and texture of the mold and then hurry and throw it away!
    fun fun fun! 🙂

It’s amazing how busy a “normal” day can be. Thank heavens for crock pots. Thanks for dropping by my blog. It’s nice to “meet” you, and hope to cross paths again.

Thank you for sharing your “slices of life”. It is so good to be reminded that I’m not the only one with moldy food, unfolded laundry, and unsorted homeschooling items. Life is an adventure and it is great to share it with others. You’re an inspiration.

i was laughing at your cell phone fiasco and picturing you overtired and slap happy, giggling uncontrollably.

i just cleaned out my fridge yesterday in honor of thanksgiving–it never gets done and really really needed to. i put on a book on cd in the kitchen and the kids did art projects while i cleaned. it was really nice.
