2008 Top Ten

December 31, 2008

(Is it really only 8:18?  Will it never be midnight???  And we’re only counting down until midnight in New York City which is 10 p.m. here.  I don’t think the little ones here would make it another 3 1/2 hours.  They were up awfully early this morning!)

While we wait for 2009, we thought we’d take a look back at 2008.  Here are some of the most memorable family moments of the year.  There are a few more than ten after all, we sure had a lot to choose from.

  • Our dog of almost 15 years, Sneaker, passed away in January.
  • The second week of February: We got trapped in one of the worst blizzard-related traffic jams ever on our way back to Salt Lake and had to spend the night in a hotel in Provo, we got home on Valentine’s Day, DH had a birthday the next day, and then we drove to Las Vegas on very short notice to meet up with his dad who flew in from Ohio.  Quite the adventure!
  • In March we bought a new van and I stressed and sweated over Mahler’s 5th Symphony.
  • In August we went on vacation to Idaho, visited the great-grandparents, slept in a tent, and saw a kitten mummy at the Museum of Idaho.
  • September saw us sitting out the Labor Day Parade in absolutely pouring, drenching rain, while everyone else ran for cover.
  • Also in September, Grandma and Poppa took us to the circus which was thrilling for all.
  • In October we took a great vacation to Great Basin National Park where we hiked (all of us on our own two feet, even D!) up to 10,300 feet to see bristlecone pines, some of the oldest living organisms on earth.  I also survived my fear of tight spaces and went in Lehman Caves and we ended up riding the train in Ely, Nevada, where it was 14 degrees and snowing.
  • Our birthdays of course!  A turned 8, C turned 5, D turned 4, DH and I. . . each got another year older.
  • Because A turned 8, he was baptized, by his father, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  We are so incredibly pleased with his decision to be baptized and it was a wonderful experience.
  • And last, but not least, DH was released as bishop of our ward 2 weeks ago.

Wow, it’s been quite a year!  (I’dd add in pictures, but they need me to play Tri-ominos at the moment.)

We can’t wait to see what 2009 will bring.

Happy New Year!
