Civil War Days

October 13, 2010

(Well, these pictures are two months old, but I never posted them and they’re relevant to what we’ve been studying this month.)

Back in August, we went to Civil War Days at This is the Place Heritage Park.  Each of the boys got to enlist in the Union army after passing a physical exam.  They each received a ration bag (C said that their hardtack wasn’t very tasty.) They got a pay stub to take to the bank, and  we got to check out both a Union and a Confederate camp and see an army surgeon’s equipment.

Later on the reenactors demonstrated their firearms and fired a cannon up the hill.

We had fun, but some day we want to go to a real Civil War reenactment.

We just participated in one for the third time, oh what a day. I hope to post a blog about it soon. There’s so much to say.
