Plimoth Plantation virtual tour

November 15, 2011

One place we didn’t get to visit when we were back East was Plimoth Plantation. But tomorrow we’ll have the chance to see it anyway with Scholastic.  A few weeks ago we signed up to receive historical letters from Pilgrim and Wampanoag children by email with a virtual field trip to follow on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Today we finally got around to reading the letters (after reading Persian fairy tales for history, that was a weird switch) and tomorrow we’re looking forward to seeing Plimoth.  The letters are now online if you’re interested in sharing them with your own children.  We suggest having them read aloud.  My boys really like the little girl’s English accent. Two of the three virtual tours are also available here, and the third (and longest) will be available after 11 a.m. MST.

We haven’t pulled out the the Thanksgiving books yet, but maybe I’ll list a few of my favorites next week.  We’re also looking forward to watching the documentary Desperate Crossing: The Untold Story of the Mayflower.   We’ve enjoyed it several times now.  I think it really gives an authentic look at the voyage of the Pilgrims.

Here’s a preview:

Any other great plans I should add to this week or next?
