E turned 4 yesterday!

It was fairly impossible trying to pin this kid down on exactly what he wanted to eat or do for the day, but he was sure he wanted donuts for breakfast.

DH was supposed to work yesterday afternoon and had been looking for someone to cover that shift for him, but didn’t have anyone say yes, they could work for him until late Friday afternoon so we scrambled to come up with some last-minute birthday plans.

A had to go represent the young men in our ward in cleaning our church building at 9 a.m., so after donuts, B took all the boys to help with that and to shovel the walks from the previous night’s snowfall while I got myself ready for a baby shower.  While I was at the shower, they went to see Despicable Me 2 at the dollar theater and hung out at the mall, or something; I’m not sure what they did!

Grandma and I picked them up after the shower and we headed home to open birthday presents once Poppa left the family history library and met us at our house.  I would have taken more pictures, but E could not stay in one place for very long; he was simply too excited to open everything.  Last year he’d open one present and then want to play with it, ignoring everything else.  This year he’s figured out that unwrapping is fun and then pretty soon, you have a whole pile of stuff to play with.

He got some books, a John Deere tractor and matching shirt, some Maters in disguise from Cars 2, a plush Pooh Bear,  dinosaur pajamas, and some more felt food and pots and pans to go with his kitchen set from Christmas.  He may have gotten a little spoiled there, especially considering we just had Christmas too!  But it was fun.

Then he wanted cake.  In fact, the very first thing he said to me that morning was, “Is my cake done yet?”  It was in the oven Friday night when he went to bed.  I think he would have had it for breakfast if I’d let him.  He didn’t enjoy us singing “Happy Birthday” to him though and hid his face the entire time.

Then we went out for an early pizza dinner after the cake.  Life’s short; eat dessert first!  After dinner, we got ready to take the three older boys to the Utah Symphony’s “Pixar in Concert” which was part of our Christmas from Grandma and Poppa.  The symphony played music from thirteen different films and showed clips on a big screen over the stage.  It was really fun.  E stayed with Grandma and Poppa and I think really enjoyed his one-on-one grandparent time and playing with all of his new things without interruptions from big brothers!

Here’s a look back at 4 years of E:
