Oh, what a day!
I got maybe 4 hours of sleep last night.
Baby A was up more than usual.
C was up, throwing up, most of the night.
It took me over an hour to get Little A to sleep this afternoon . . . for a 20 minute nap. So frustrating!
Then she had a blow-out diaper tonight. It was everywhere, up to her neck by the time I got all of her clothes off for a second bath.
And I’m sure something else happened which I’ve already forgotten.
Oh, yes, DH is gone to a convention in Las Vegas until Friday. Smart man though: he restocked my dark chocolate stash. I’m going to need it!
On the plus side–
E keeping his little sister happy while I fixed dinner:
He’s certainly had his share of naughtiness lately, so a scene like this is so appreciated!
Not that I’m glad C was sick, but it was kind of nice to have a lighter school day today. (Not that school has been remotely intense recently.) Being that it was March 25, the day that Sauron was defeated, according to J. R. R. Tolkien, we participated in Tolkien Reading Day. We were originally going to coordinate something with our book club people, but it’s probably good we never got around to it since C felt so crummy and slept most of the day. We were also going to celebrate with more food, especially Second Breakfast, but again, between C being sick and us getting DH out the door to the airport, that didn’t happen either. But while C was awake and semi-upright, we did read!
I read a picture book biography of Tolkien to the boys. A read one of Tolkien’s Letters from Father Christmas that he would write every year for his children. I read the opening to The Hobbit where we’re introduced to Bag End and also the “Misty Mountain” poem. D read a short selection from The Fellowship of the Ring, where Gandalf explains the ring to Frodo, and C read a part about a dragon from The Silmarillion, which he is currently reading. We interspersed the reading selections with Hobbity music from the films. It was really fun! We should share literature like that more often.
That was really the highlight of our day. The weather was gorgeous though, so I sent the boys outside after that. We also went on a walk after dinner. Well, C stayed home, and A was gone to a youth activity, so D, E, Little A, and I went for a walk.
Now here’s hoping our night goes well without DH home.
